The Holistic Plan for NEET 2022

Our study plan includes four components:

  1. Completing the syllabus on time
  2. Routine for revision
  3. Flashcards
  4. Daily routine

Completing the syllabus on Time

The right foundation of the concepts will set you up for success. In this plan, you are not supposed to move to the next chapter until you have mastered the fundamentals of the current subject. If you stumble on the fundamentals, you may find yourself being challenged in the advanced concepts. We want the NEET aspirants to learn the fundamentals by heart. Here is the routine that you should follow:

  1. Make notes from the relevant textbooks.
  2. It would help if you create a schedule to practice questions after you have completed a chapter.
    1. Just studying the topics may give you a false sense of confidence that you know the answers. The harsh truth is that you won’t achieve much by reading the theory again and again. Dedicate 75% of your time to practice NEET MCQs. If you are studying for 8 hours in a day, 6 hours should be dedicated to practice. Time spent on notes should be 5-10% for Physics, 10-15% for chemistry and 25% for biology. When you actually sit down to solve MCQs, you can analyze how much you have learned. Hence, ensure that you spend more time-solving questions than studying.
    2. When you study the notes for the first time, you may retain only 15% to 25% of the content. Practicing MCQs will help you to retain the concepts for a longer period.
    3. After you have studied any topic, you can start practicing MCQs in an open-style test (with or without notes).
      • With notes – When you are solving questions by looking at the notes, you should try to correct the maximum questions on the second attempt.
      • Without notes – When solving questions without notes, pay close attention to the explanations given at the end of every question in order to understand the concept.
  3. A student should move on to the next topic only when he or she is getting most of the questions correct. You can check your insight section on Darwin and find out if you are scoring well in fundamentals or not. If you are not getting more than 70% correct, you should refer to your notes or textbooks to clearly understand the chapter. Moving on to the next topic prematurely is counterproductive and may not give you the desired result in the NEET exam.

Routine for revision

After completing the syllabus and simultaneously solving the questions, you need to gain the optimal advantage through revision. The objective of the revision is to ensure that you retain everything you have learned.

The goal of the revision is to ensure that the gap between the strongest and weakest subjects is as small as possible and that the readiness index is as high as possible.

We have taken 3 components in revision:

  1. Weakness-based revision: 4 days in the week (60% of revision time). When creating a study plan for the next two weeks, ensure that you keep aside some time for the weakest 25% chapters to revise them thoroughly.
    1. Chapters with below 80 readiness index: In this revision, you must revise your notes following the strategy for “studying subject for 1st time”. The aim here is to ensure that your weakest topic crosses the 80% in readiness index. You should solve questions after revising the fundamentals and evaluate your performance. This strategy will allow you to solve more challenging and difficult problems even if you don’t know the exact number.
    2. Chapters with above 80 readiness index: In this part, you now need to solve tough questions even when you are unsure about the answer. Every revision cycle, students should practice 30 percent of the questions from QBank (e.g., if a chapter has 600 questions, the student should practice at least 200 questions). This strategy would ensure that you have exposure to all the combinations of the fundamental concepts that can be asked in the exam.
  2. Time-based revision: 2 days in a week (25% of the revision time) When making a study plan for the next two weeks, pick out the oldest or recent topic that you have not revised in the longest time. Follow the revision technique the same as above.
  3. Use of Short-Term Memory 1 day in a week (15% of the revision time) – The objective here is to ensure that no topic is left untouched for more than 2 weeks. This means any topic which does not fit any of the above two categories will fit here. You should do a quick revision by using the “Deep Revision” feature (on the revision page) to identify your weaker or stronger areas.

Flashcards

Most students give the flashcards a miss since they think it to be a time-pass exercise. But did you know that we have created flashcards to help you remember all the facts? Darwin has over more than 3000 flashcards from the biology subject, and with demands from our users, we will be adding more flashcards for other subjects.

When you start using the flashcard, you might think of it as a waste of your time or feel that you are not making any progress. But with consistent effort on your part daily, you may find incredible results within a month. Most of our users appreciate the flashcard feature on Darwin, which helps them to retain high-yield concepts easily.

So how should you use flashcards?

Ensure that you should never practice flashcards for over 10 minutes. The ideal time for using it is 5 mins. It would help if you also re-visit those flashcards 6-10 times a day to ensure that it gets imprinted on your memory. After using flashcards, use the scale rating honestly. This would help you as our algorithm system would ensure that you memorize the fact precisely.

Feedback Scale (from left to right):

0 – No idea what this card is talking about.

1 – Knows other related facts but no idea about the current fact.

2 – Faint idea about current facts.

3 – Not sure about the answer but would remember if it comes in MCQ.

4 – Remembers the answer but had to put some effort into recalling it.

5 – Remembers the answer crystal clear.

When you submit honest scaling, our algorithm will prioritize revising facts accordingly.

Also, in one day, do not spend more than 30 mins on flashcards. . Try not to go overboard with over 50 flashcards in a single session.

Daily Routine

To clear NEET 2022, you must have a tight daily routine that you follow strictly. Here is how we have planned for you.

  1. 30 mins – 1hr of Daily Revision: Start by completing “Daily Revision” from the Darwin app. This is a significant step because it will help you to retain the concepts for longer. We have found that students who engaged with “Daily Revision” retain 40% more than the students who skip it after a month of preparation.
    • 30 – 45 mins Daily Test: You should take daily tests for the chapter you have already prepared. This process would hardly take 30 or 40 minutes of your time and will also help you keep track of your progress and competition.
  2. 30 mins Flash Card: Scroll through flashcards 6-7 flashcards times whenever you find yourself having free time.
  3. 5 – 8 hrs. Deliberate Practice: Study a chapter based on the schedule. Ensure that you are spending at least 1.5 times more time practicing MCQs than the time spent on studying or memorizing topics.
    • Study notes/textbook: 2 hours (minimum)
    • Practice topics just studied: 3 hours (minimum)

It would be best if you put in a daily effort of at least 7 hours in studying and preparing for NEET 2022. You can also put in more hours if you like. Remember, your rank and success are directly proportional to the efforts and hours you put into studying. You at least need 8-10 months of sincere study if you are serious about your selection in NEET 2022.
